Prostate cancer

How CenterWell Specialty Pharmacy® can help

Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men after skin cancer.¹ When you’re diagnosed, it’s normal to feel lost or uncertain. Learn more about the disease and what we can do to support you on the road ahead.

What is prostate cancer?²

Prostate cancer starts in the prostate gland—a small, walnut-shaped organ that produces the fluid that makes semen.

Prostate cancer can be slow-growing or aggressive. Slow-growing prostate cancer may not cause any symptoms and remain in the prostate. But male hormones, such as testosterone, can cause prostate cancer cells to grow and spread to other parts of the body, resulting in advanced prostate cancer.

Early-stage prostate cancer usually doesn’t show many signs and symptoms but can be caught through regular screenings. Advanced prostate cancer is more evident due to symptoms such as:³

  • Problems urinating or a weak stream
  • Urinating frequently, especially at night
  • Blood in urine or semen
  • Trouble getting an erection
  • Pain in the hips, back or chest
  • Weakness or numbness in the legs or feet
  • Loss of bladder or bowel control from cancer

Prostate cancer can be treated by using a combination of therapies and medications. CenterWell Specialty Pharmacy offers medications to treat prostate cancer, as directed by your prescriber. These medications target cancer cells and stop them from spreading.⁴

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy uses medications that are given by IV or taken by mouth. It is the main form of treatment for prostate cancer.

Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy uses your own immune system to fight cancer by boosting or changing how the immune system works to attack cancer cells.
