Learning about refills, renewals, and expired prescriptions
Have you ever wondered what the difference between prescription refills and renewals is, and what to do when you have an expired prescription? CenterWell Pharmacy™ is here to answer your prescription questions.
Refilling your prescription
Depending on the medicine you’re taking, your prescriber may include refills. A refill means when your prescription gets low, you can order a new supply of medicine without having to request a new prescription from your prescriber. Some prescriptions don’t come with refills because your prescriber may feel you only need a certain amount to feel better.
Renewing your prescription
If you’re renewing a prescription, we’ll reach out to your prescriber for a new one. Please allow up to 6 business days for your prescriber to respond to our request. If we haven’t heard back from your prescriber, we’ll notify you by phone or email, depending on your communication preferences. When this happens, it’s important that you contact your prescriber directly, or your renewal request may be canceled.
If your prescription has recently expired, it’s quick and easy to renew it online.
1. Sign in to your CenterWell Pharmacy account.
2. In the menu, select “My Rx” and then “View all Rx.”
3. Filter your prescriptions by selecting “Expired” in the “Status” drop-down menu.
4. Choose the medicine you need and select “Renew.”
5. Once selected, we’ll reach out to your prescriber for confirmation.
If there are any delays, we’ll let you know. From there, it may take 7 to 10 business days once we hear from your prescriber before your medicine arrives.
